Hamlet of Martorasco and Church of San Pasquale Baylon

The cluster of houses in the hamlet of Martorasco is situated on a small hill overlooking the bed of the Serio River, just north of the mouth of the Frati Valley. The ancient houses have been partially renovated and modified. Among them stands the small church dedicated to Saint Paschal Baylon. The name “Martorasco” is composed of three distinct elements of pre-Latin origin: “mar”, meaning stony place, “tor” indicating the mountain, and “ask”, meaning people. Therefore, this name could mean “people of the mountain gravel”, referring to the Vaccaro mountain that overlooks it.
