Parra Oppidum degli Orobi – Archaeological park

At the Archaeological Park, amidst a highly evocative landscape, the remains of the houses unearthed during excavations carried out in past decades are visible. The complex highlights the significant centre (oppidum) of the Orobii. In particular, a portion of the settlement has been enhanced to demonstrate its long lifespan: from the 11ᵗʰ century BCE to the late Roman period (5ᵗʰ century CE), with an interruption in the first two centuries CE. The settlement was located on a river terrace in the area known as Castello, in a naturally-protected and strategically positioned site for controlling transportation routes and resources. Often, the toponym “Castello” indicates hilltop locations favoured for settlements during the pre-Roman era.
